Galicia launches its journey towards systemic climate resilience
Galicia took its first step towards systemic climate resilience with its first regional workshop, held on 5 March 2026 at the City of Culture of Galicia in Santiago de Compostela.
The event was opened by Ángeles Vázquez, Regional Minister for Environment and Climate Change of the Xunta de Galicia, who highlighted the value of the SystR project in accelerating climate change adaptation through well-coordinated, interconnected solutions that strengthen systemic resilience. She also underlined Galicia's role as the replicating region for Guadeloupe (France), focusing on coastal resilience solutions.
Paula Uría, Director General for Renewable Energy and Climate Change, emphasised the strong commitment of both regions to collaborate and benefit from the development of similar nature-based solutions.
The workshop also featured a scientific discussion on key climate risks, including droughts and heatwaves, alongside adaptation measures such as those developed through the transformAr project to support shellfishing. Through a series of interactive activities, the nearly 50 participants had the opportunity to connect, exchange knowledge, and take the first steps towards identifying integrated solutions for building climate resilience together.
